Genealogy
My link to the Pooley family of Middlesex commences with my 3 times great grandmother Charlotte born in 1799 in Notholt. The family both backwards and forwards has been well researched by a number of people including myself. Most of the research was done prior to the internet and therefore in my opinion is more reliable having been conducted by individuals who know their hobby and have the patience to find the lines of their roots.
The earliest Pooley on my tree is Robert born circa 1640, a period when records can be difficult or disappear due to the civil unrest in the country. He married Elizabeth Greentree in Northolt. The baptism records show 5 children including a Robert in 1675. This Robert dies in 1676 so cannot be the Robert of the next generation on the tree. I have attributed Robert c 1680 on the tree because of the strong links to Northolt and the probability that this is the right family albeit an uncle. Lack of information from surrounding parishes leaves this a mystery for the time being but the records do reveal Robert marrying Ann Took in 1704.
I have not traced any children of this couple until they appear in 1713 and the baptism's of 3 children. It is a fair supposition that they had children between 1704 and 1713 and that one of them was the next Robert on the tree.
From this point forward the speculation and supposition becomes fact and the tree absolutely certain. Robert c 1709 marries Elizabeth Gowlett in 1733 in Northolt. 3 children are baptised in Northolt. The adjoining parish of Pinner records the family again when Thomas c 1740 marries Jane Hill.
Thomas and Jane have 7 children including Benjamin baptised 1771. He settles back in Northolt in the 1790's with his wife Anne, the strong possibility is that she is Anne Lawrence from a marriage in 1795 in Westminster. Charlotte my great grandmother times 3 married George Saunders.
From the mid 1700's the spread of the family is well defined and during the 1800's they move more into London. The various branches shown on the tree all descending with certainty to Robert Pooley and Elizabeth Gowlett. Confirmation of the earlier generations may come. Various wills and Land Tax information are also recorded and will be added to this site in due course.
